Social Studies Stations, January 22 - 25

Tuesday, January 22nd

1. Record the following information (what is written in red) in your Social Studies Journal.
2. Make sure you date the top of your page and write the title of your information.
3. Use your Social Studies book to read Chapter 5, Lesson 4 on The Republic of Texas on page 1206 - 208 or log onto Pearson and have it read to you.

Republic of Texas

  • Texans won the Revolution at the Battle of San Jacinto
  • Texas became the Republic of Texas
  • Established a constitution and 3 branches of government
  • Sam Houston was the 1st and 3rd president of the Republic of Texas
  • Mirabeau Lamar was the 2nd president of the Republic of Texas

Challenges of the Republic

  • Debt created by the war
  • Native Americans wanted to claim the land for themselves

    • Border
    • Denial of treaty

    • Texans could keep slavery and their way of life
